Introduction
One of the hottest things on the computer scene right now are
those EL Appliques. They are thin, come in a wide variety of
designs, and colors, and can be mounted just about anywhere.
They are now even coming out with complete EL Side Panels for
your pc. It seems like the possibilities with EL technology
are unlimited.
We spoke to the good people at HighSpeedPc,
and they agreed to send us an EL Applique. When it arrived,
it came well packaged in a bubble wrap envelope, and here's
what we got:
1 - 'Radioactive' EL Applique
1 - Inverter

After taking a good look at everything
I was quite pleased with it. The applique was wired with about
10 feet of wire, which is the most I have seen on any type of
accessory, which means that you will be able to place it anywhere
in your case. On the end of the wire that is connected to the
applique there is a small clip connector to connect the applique
to the inverter. The inverter is installed in a small grey box,
with two wires coming from each end. Two white wires on one
end, which connect to the applique. On the other end of the
inverter, there is a red and black wire, which connect to any
available Molex connector.

As you can see there is alot of wire from the applique.
Installation
First, figure out where you want to mount the applique. It's
best if you make sure the area where you want to mount it is
clean. Peel the 4 small adhesive covers off of the 4 corners
of the applique, and apply to the inside of your window. If
you find the adhesive is giving you a hard time sticking, try
heating it up SLIGHTLY with a hair dryer on LOW to make the
adhesive a bit more sticky.
Find a location to mount your power inverter
(the little grey box), preferably near the upper area of your
case (the inverter creates a little bit of heat, and heat rises..I'm
sure you get the idea) The best location would be near an exhaust
fan. Use some double-sided tape to attach it.
Plug the molex connector into your computer's
power supply and then the connector in between the applique
and the power inverter and your applique is now installed. If
you like, you can add a 12 volt switch in line with the RED
wire to turn it on or off. See the diagram below for more details
on how to do this.

And that's all it takes!
The glow from the applique was
not bad, initially I thought it would be much brighter, but
it has a very nice glow that would not get on your nerves.

Conclusion
This is a great little addition to
any case, and the good thing about it, it is not just for PC's,
there is an available battery pack that can be used with this
line of appliques, which makes it even more versatile. The only
thing I wish this unit was able to do was support dual appliques,
with a dual inverter.
