Introduction

Ok so who has an LCD? Or better
yet, who doesn't have one?
LCD's are becoming or have become a modders MUST; no computer
is complete without one. They are not just eye-candy they can
be very versatile and can be made to be very informative; with
the ability to display just about anything, from your CPU's
temperature to what song you are listening to, to your name
and address if you wish.
After salivating over the Crystalfontz
634 LCD, I finally decided to go ahead and get it. I ordered
it on a Sunday and by the following Tuesday afternoon I had
it in my hand. FedEx!
Before I got this LCD, I had no prior experience
with LCD's, besides seeing them on the net; so I am giving you
my first hand; first time experience with an LCD, from installing
it, setting it up, and then using it.
Firstly even before I opened the box that the
LCD was packaged in, there was a BRIGHT yellow warning sticker
keeping the box closed, it read: "ATTENTION, Observe Precautions
For Handling. Electrostatic Sensitive Devices."
As you can see above the yellow warning
sticker.

As you can see there is another yellow
warning sticker.

So I took heed and proceeded carefully.
Now when I opened the box I was a little surprised, I thought
that the LCD would have been packaged a little differently,
I thought it would have been in some soft of foam, but it was
wrapped in bubble paper. I am not saying that it wasn't packaged
properly because it was. With three layers of bubble wrap that
LCD was going NO WHERE!
After unwrapping all those layers of bubble-wrap
this is what I found:
1 - 4 Pack of screws
1 - Serial Cable (F - F)
1 - Power Connector (Molex - 3 Pin)
1 - LCD (20 x 4)
1 - Double Bay LCD Bracket
Above are the items included in the kit.
Screws, Cables, LCD & the Bracket.

Fortunately the LCD was already installed on
the bracket by the staff at Crystalfontz, which was nice. The
steel that the bracket is made of, in my opinion seems to be
a little thicker than that used in a pc case construction, which
in turn makes it very strong, and not very easy to bend. The
LCD is secured to the bracket by 4 small bolts in each corner.
The LCD being reviewed has the following display
features.
* White Edge LED Backlight
* STN Negative, Blue
* Transmissive 0 +50 deg C 6:00
This simply means that the text is white and the background
is blue.
The bracket that comes with the kit has a light beige face,
covered in matte finish.
On the lower left hand corner of the face there is a small Crystalfontz
logo, as well as the company name. The LCD's screen is protected
by a piece of clear plastic that is attached to the face of
the bracket. So normal wear and tear should not do any harm
whatsoever to the LCD's screen.
The following are a few of the
