Introduction

LED's. That's one thing that almost everyone has in their case, unless you have taken them out. They can be, and are used in all types of applications. They are in your CD-Rom drive, as well as on the front of your case, showing power and hard drive activity, etc. They come in many different shapes, sizes and colors, and are generally not that expensive.

Many persons have found numerous custom uses for LED’s, and this trend is only beginning. Sunbeam took advantage of this lighting craze and developed what they call, a Lazer LED, which is basically, a very small rectangular box that houses 3 LED’s. The LED’s are not all pointing in the same direction. One is pointing straight, and the other two at opposite 45 degree angles.

The item came packaged in a clear plastic blister pack, but unfortunately this provides little protection, and during shipping the plastic casing was crushed. Fortunately the device seems to be well built and was not damaged.

Included in the packing was the Lazer LED, an attached power cable which goes to a molex connector, a small piece of Velcro, and 2 screws, which can be used to mount the light. So basically you have everything you need to get this thing mounted, plugged in, and lit up!

One attractive feature of the Lazer LED, is its casing. A very shiny, almost chrome like looking finish, which is nice and is sure to match the interior of just about any case.

Features
• Low Heat Output
• 200,000 Hour Life (22 years)
• Waterproof
• Shockproof
• Additional Female Molex Power Connector
• Voltage Range 10-14 Volts D.C
• Draw: Less than 26mA@12volts

There is no specific mounting place for the Lazer LED, wherever it fits it can be mounted! Now there are two mounting options when it comes to this item. It can either be secured by screws or with the Velcro tape provided. In terms of where the power wires can reach, that is not much of an issue because, between the molex and the LED’s there is sufficient wire to place it almost anywhere. The only thing left to do was:

Powering up! Once the pc was on, the LED’s lit up right away. During the day, or if the case is in a well lit area, the lights will not show up that well, as with everything, but they show up nicely in dark areas or at night.

The Lazer LED provides decent lighting although it only uses three LED's.Nevertheless to fully light up a case you will need at least three of them.Singly they are good for accentuating certain single items in the case. Also because they are so small they can be hid in almost any crevice in the
case.

Conclusion
The Lazer LED is a great device, and I think everyone should have at least one in their case. They are very small, and provide bright lighting despite their size. Another thing, with their 200,000 hour (22 years) they are sure to outlast your current system. They are also waterproof which means that they can be used in wide applications.

Although nice an small, it does not provide enough light to light up an entire case, for that you would need a few more. Its light intensity cannot be compared to the cheaper CCFL’s. For its size and its intensity, it can be considered a bit expensive, but considering it should last up to 22
years, it’s not that bad.

What would be nice is to see this item with an On/Off switch. That would be perfect. On the whole this is a not a bad item, and should be a part of everyone’s case.

I give the Sunbeam Lazer LED:
